GRIDFLEX · CALCULATOR NOTES

How the scenario calculator works

A transparent walkthrough of the inputs, arithmetic, and scenario ranges behind GridFlex’s commercial facility calculator.

01 / Inputs

Five assumptions shape each estimate.

These defaults and limits are read from the same configuration as the live calculator.

Annual electricity spend

Total U.S. facility electricity cost you want to model, in USD per year.

Default
$360,000
Allowed range
$10,000–$20,000,000

U.S. dollars per year

Controllable energy-cost share

Your estimate of the annual spend linked to load the selected asset can influence.

Default
25%
Allowed range
0%–100%

Percent of annual electricity spend

Monthly peak demand

The facility’s highest monthly demand, measured in kW.

Default
1,000 kW
Allowed range
10 kW–10,000 kW

Kilowatts (kW)

Demand charge

The tariff demand charge used for this scenario, in USD per kW-month.

Default
$18/kW-month
Allowed range
$0/kW-month–$100/kW-month

U.S. dollars per kW-month

Peak-reduction assumption

The reduction you want to test across the flexible-cost and demand-charge components.

Default
10%
Allowed range
0%–50%

Percent

02 / Formulas

The same two components are added in every case.

Percent inputs are treated as fractions in the calculation.

Configured illustrative annual value

(annual electricity spend × controllable cost share × peak-reduction assumption)
+ (monthly peak demand × demand charge × 12 × peak-reduction assumption)

Scenario peak reduction

monthly peak demand × peak-reduction assumptionThe monthly demand charge is annualized by multiplying by 12 months.

03 / Scenario range

Low and High adjust two inputs, then recalculate.

Each case uses the same annual-value and peak-reduction formulas above. Other configured inputs stay the same.

Low

Subtract 5 percentage points from controllable cost share and 3 points from peak reduction.

High

Add 5 percentage points to controllable cost share and 3 points to peak reduction.

Both adjusted values are clamped to their input limits: cost share stays between 0% and 100%, and peak reduction stays between 0% and 50%. For example, a 2% cost share and 1% peak-reduction setting produce 0% for both Low adjustments rather than negative values.

04 / Worked example

Default assumptions, carried through all three cases.

The values below are calculated from the live calculator model using its current defaults: $360,000 annual spend, 25% controllable share, 1,000 kW monthly peak, an $18/kW-month demand charge, and 10% peak reduction.

Configured

25% share · 10% peak reduction
$30,600
Energy-cost component
$9,000
Peak-demand component
$21,600
Scenario peak reduction
100 kW

Low case

20% share · 7% peak reduction
$20,160
Energy-cost component
$5,040
Peak-demand component
$15,120
Scenario peak reduction
70 kW

High case

30% share · 13% peak reduction
$42,120
Energy-cost component
$14,040
Peak-demand component
$28,080
Scenario peak reduction
130 kW

05 / Limits

Use these outputs as scenarios, not promises.

Outputs are illustrative scenarios. They are not forecasts, guaranteed savings, revenue commitments, or net ROI. The calculation does not subtract asset or operating costs. Actual outcomes depend on site conditions, tariff structure, asset performance, operating schedules, program eligibility and terms, and market conditions.
